From the time I was in the second grade until I illustrated a book of “Endearments” for my wife on her fiftieth birthday, I carried an “I can’t draw” voice as part of my identity.
That was eleven years ago. Since then, I’ve discovered the tremendous rewards – and yes, frustrations – that come with working with oils. I find it heartening, even exhilarating, to create pieces that continue to prompt discovery or give some comfort long after the pigments have dried.
